With more than 3000 films produced annually, India is the world’s largest film producer with a private-sector-led industry. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the merger of four of its film media divisions, namely the Films Division, Directorate of Film, to fulfill its commitment to supporting the film industry. The merger of Film Media Units under one roof will lead to coordination of activities and resources and better convergence within the industry, thereby ensuring efficiency in achieving the mandate of each media unit.
